Join historian Susanna Kuo on a walk in Old Town and George Rogers Park to learn about the Chinese workers who once lived and worked in Oswego. The walk will begin at the Iron Workers Museum on Wilbur Street and conclude at the iron furnace in lower George Rogers Park. *While this is any easy walk, it may not be suitable for those who have difficulty walking six or more blocks on a mix of city streets and park paths.
Start at the Iron Workers Museum, 40 Wilbur Street at 1:00 pm.
Susanna Kuo grew up in Lake Oswego and has also lived in Taiwan and Japan. She is an authority on the Oswego iron industry and has a Ph.D. in English literature and Folklore from Indiana University. Her interest in the Oswego iron industry was awakened by her experience as an apprentice in a traditional craft guild in Japan. A special focus of her research has been the Chinese workers who once had a small settlement near Old Town.
